The Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute is on the forefront of developing new probes and biomarkers for PET and MRI imaging techniques, as well as for new treatment options. Research is ongoing in a variety of areas including the development of an antibody therapy for cervical cancer.
Much of this work will be aided by the Cyclotron and Radiopharmacy, (housed at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre), which will produce the radioisotopes used for both patient care and research. A local supply of 18F and 99Tc will mean better access to this material for scientists.
