The patient is at the start and at the heart of the research journey
Since our region is unique in its health care needs and challenges, it makes sense that our research program would be unique as well. The Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute promotes patient-centred research that focuses on finding treatments and techniques to solve health care challenges most prevalent in Northwestern Ontario – treatment and techniques that also have global applications. Much of the research is cutting edge in niche areas of imaging and related fields including:
- Advanced detection devices and techniques such as hyperpolarized gas MRI and PET mammography
- Probe development and biomarker exploration for cancer diagnosis and treatments
Research outside of imaging includes a special focus on Indigenous Health and rural/distance health care to address challenges associated with geographical, cultural, and other barriers to care.
At the Thunder Bay Regional Health Research Institute, the patient is at the start and at the heart of the research journey.
We encourage strong collaborations between our scientists and clinicians at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre and throughout the region to find homegrown solutions to the health care challenges that affect us most.
